ALBERTA BASIC SECURITY TRAINING (ABST)

The solicitor general and public security office regulates the security industry in Alberta, including licensing and compliance. Alberta Justice is responsible, on behalf of the Registrar, for the development and maintenance of training standards, and the administration of Security Training under the Security Services and private investigators Act. This includes the administration of monitored examinations for security courses, the inspection and quality control of training academies and approved security instructors and examination proctors.

ABST UPDATE: Although Sentinel is a certified training agent for the solicitor generals ABST program, we are currently not teaching the course. The ABST training is mandatory for licensing and employment. Please visit Columbia college to register for the course at: http://www.columbia.ab.ca/programs-courses/professional-programs/alberta-basic-security-training/

CERTIFIED PROTECTION OFFICER (CPO)

About CPO Certification

CERTIFIED SECURITY SUPERVISOR MANAGEMENT (CSSM)

Sentinel is pleased to announce that this certification is also available through us however, you must be a CPO and must have held the designation for at least one full year before becoming eligible to take this course.

SITE SPECIFIC TRAINING (SST)

The site specific training is designed to meet the specific needs and requirements of a project. This training is normally developed in conjunction with the building operators. The training manual used for this training is usually referred to as the site post orders.

Site training cover the following but it is not limited to:

Customer relations, building general patrol, key control, lock down, access control, emergency preparedness, detect and report safety hazards, detect and control physical security defects, control lost and found property, inspection of waste receptacles, perimeter security, traffic control, communications, preserve crime scene, camera monitoring, inspection of alarm systems, detect and deter unwanted personnel, fire equipment inspection & crime deterrence.

FIRST AID TRAINING (FA)

First aid training level C is a requirement to remain employed with us and we expect all our members to complete this course within the first three months of employment. More information about this course can be found at: www.sja.ca

PRESSURE POINT CONTROL TACTICS (PPCT)

PPCS is an internationally recognized authority on use of force training for security services and law enforcement officials. This course is mandatory in Alberta for any Agent who is required to carry a baton as part of his duties.

Note: This program is currently on hold and updates will be posted as soon as we are able to assist you in achieving this certification. Columbia college has just announced that they are in preparations to teach the class. UPDATES COMING!
